Hire a box of practical, thematic numeracy activities.

The Maths Boxes provide learners with fun and engaging opportunities to develop and apply their procedural and numerical reasoning skills. Each box contains a minimum of 15 fully resourced activities per year group.

The boxes complement the mastery approach developing conceptual learning and making links across maths. They are ideal for:

challenging MAT learners
developing parental engagement
continuous provision
challenge areas
group or whole class work
whole-school maths days
developing peer and self-assessment
encouraging mathematical talk

The activities are an excellent opportunity for staff to undertake formative assessment of numerical reasoning skills. Guidance is provided for teachers that identifies the key assessment opportunities; models how to use learner responses to assess where pupils are on the numerical reasoning continuum; gives key questions to develop the skills of ALN and MAT pupils; and supports identification of next steps for taking learning deeper.
